This weekend when I'm in Cleveland I'm gonna see if I can build some of these with my dad.
He's got an ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

I have a 20 sample case and a 30 sample case, so I'll try to make five of them. From the looks of them, the new ones on their way aren't as wide, so they may be 10 or 12 sample cases, which I think is great, but will require a different cradle.

so chris' advice was great. I made a test sample today in the studio, and now I'm pretty sure I can get the look I want I also brought a bunch of HG samples over today to fit them into the new cases. One fits 20, the other 30. Not sure how many will fit in the 10 new cases on their way. I also need to build a sort of cradle to hold the sample boxes inside the case. Something with a handle they can easily be lifted out . I don't want the samples just loose inside. I think I can build what I need in my dads basement next weekend.

chris: what are you putting into those military cases?
Charles Truett: it's going to be for collecting samples. it's a community exploration project
2:50 PM
chris: hmm sounds interesting
Charles Truett: you can participate. once i get the stencils on the boxes
chris: did you get the stencils done?
Charles Truett: no, i need to make them. never done it before, so i have to figure it out
Charles Truett: spray paint is the look i'm going for
chris: i've done a few stencils
chris: the trick is making the design so you can cut it out without it all falling apart
Charles Truett: i'm worried about paint slipping under the stencil
chris: then just print it out and spray mount on bristol or some card stock
chris: well as long as the surface is basically flat you're ok
chris: but you can always use some lowtack spray mount
chris: and when you spray, spray straight on, not at an angle
Charles Truett: excellent. so i need cardstock to mount the print on
Charles Truett: that's a good idea
chris: you want something thick enough to be stiff but not so thick that you can't cut through it
chris: and if you're only doing a few pieces you can use thinner stock
Charles Truett: cool.
Charles Truett: i'm gonna have about 10 of those boxes
chris: yeah, you could get some stuff from ted in the studio
Charles Truett: oh good iddea
chris: these guys do amazing stencils, not sure the cost
