This project is about fantasy and make believe, which I guess is what all of my projects are about. As a kid I always preferred the kind of play that involved inventing worlds and characters over sports or organized games with rules. And later when I played RPGs I didn't care about all the dice and the charts and what not, I just wanted to play with my imagination.
Life is a bitch because it's constantly messing with my narrative, and frankly I've had it with that. So all the work I've done recently has been about creating my own reality. People believe the silliest things, and are willing to die for those beliefs. It's no different for anybody, people have to create their own fantasies in order to understand their lives. I just don't think it's so important that what I believe is "true" in the strictest sense. I know that nothing anybody else believes is true, and so I feel pretty free to invent my own nonsense and believe it as much as I like. It's really just a question of commitment, just like the concept of Faith in the Catholic church. It's a gift from god to be able to believe in nonsense. I'll go with that, I'm just gonna choose my own nonsense.
This project is quite simply about inventing an ecosystem in the river close by, and letting anybody play by creating their own species and submitting it to the wiki. It's not really a game, but it's play. And it's a way of revisualizing the world in a way that suits me, rather than consuming more information from around me and allowing that to dominate my understanding of reality.
